Fleadh Groups / 2016 Registration
The Galway fleadh takes place in Glenamaddy on the 14th / 15th May 2016. Each year the Kilnadeema branch enters groups in the three age categories: under 12, 12-15 and 15-18. There are two group competitions in Comhaltas, ceili band and grupai cheoil. A ceili band must have ten members while a grupai cheoil can have up to twenty members playing a wide variety of music and instruments. In order for the tutors to know which group each child is suitable for, they listen to each child individually play any tune of their choice, usually an easy tune played well is better than struggling with a difficult tune. Anybody interested in being part of a group for the fleadh should be in the Temperance Hall, Loughrea on Sunday next February 21st at 10.30. A full practice schedule will be drawn up when we know the exact numbers taking part, in other years we held ten practices on Sunday mornings in the Temperance Hall, the first practice is scheduled for Sunday March 6th.
We are recruiting new members at the moment as long as they are not currently part of another branch, we have always accepted musicians of all abilities and have always tried to include them in our groups, for further information call 0851741684.
Everybody taking part has to be a member of Comhaltas for insurance reasons, junior membership is €6 for the year, we will be collecting it on Sunday next February 21st.
The senior sessions continue on Sunday next 7th February in McNamees Bar, Loughrea from 5.00 - 7.00, the first two sessions were a great success with 12 and 15 musicians attending, any senior musicians are welcome to join us. This is a monthly session held at the same time, same place on the first Sunday of each month.
