St Patrick's Day Session

The branch are holding a session for all senior musicians in McNamees Bar, Loughrea on St Patrick's day starting at 5.30, all welcome.

Fleadh Groups / 2016 Registration

The Galway fleadh takes place in Glenamaddy on the 14th / 15th May 2016. Each year the Kilnadeema branch enters groups in the three age categories: under 12, 12-15 and 15-18. There are two group competitions in Comhaltas, ceili band and grupai cheoil. A ceili band must have ten members while a grupai cheoil can have up to twenty members playing a wide variety of music and instruments. In order for the tutors to know which group each child is suitable for, they listen to each child individually play any tune of their choice, usually an easy tune played well is better than struggling with a difficult tune. Anybody interested in being part of a group for the fleadh should be in the Temperance Hall, Loughrea on Sunday next February 21st at 10.30. A full practice schedule will be drawn up when we know the exact numbers taking part, in other years we held ten practices on Sunday mornings in the Temperance Hall, the first practice is scheduled for Sunday March 6th.

We are recruiting new members at the moment as long as they are not currently part of another branch, we have always accepted musicians of all abilities and have always tried to include them in our groups, for further information call 0851741684.

Everybody taking part has to be a member of Comhaltas for insurance reasons, junior membership is €6 for the year, we will be collecting it on Sunday next February 21st.

Senior Sessions

The senior sessions continue on Sunday next 7th February in McNamees Bar, Loughrea from 5.00 - 7.00, the first two sessions were a great success with 12 and 15 musicians attending, any senior musicians are welcome to join us. This is a monthly session held at the same time, same place on the first Sunday of each month.

Village Theatre Concert

We are holding a concert in the Village Theatre, Carrabane on Friday 29th of January starting at 8.00pm. The concert will feature music from our junior members as well as our senior mummer group who won at the Galway Mummer Festival in New Inn recently. The mummer show will feature music, song, storytelling, solo dancing, the All-Ireland winning set dancers from Abbeyknockmoy as well as some starring roles from budding actors as never seen before. Admission to the concert is €5 please support.

The annual mummer festival in New Inn took place on Saturday 2nd January. After a long absence many of the old crew were back on stage again along with a few who came through the junior ranks in the last few years. Kilnadeema got a well deserved first place after a lively performance of top class music, song, dance and storytelling. We were joined this year by the fabulous set dancers from Abbeyknockmoy and step dancer Conor from Headford who was a late sub. Individual winners in the group were best flute player - Yvonne Barrett, best storyteller - Mark Holohan, best performer in group was Keith the set and brush dancer from Abbeyknockmoy.

Autumn Session Music

The last of our Autumn sessions takes place next Sunday 6th December, from 4.00 to 5.00, in McNamees Bar, Bride St. Loughrea (on Ballinasloe side of O’Deas Hotel)  We have had five Sunday morning sessions with both groups now able to play plenty of music for a session. Everybody should try to attend next week and bring along family and friends.
